In e-learning this week, fourth and fifth graders are working on a comic strip of what their favorite after-school activity is. Every day, when I get home from school I take my dog Charlie for a very long walk and if it is nice outside we play catch. I look forward to our walk and I bet he does too! I chose to do my e-learning project digitally. I took a picture of Charlie and then digitally drew an animation using the DoInk drawing and animation iPad app. I then layered the animation over the picture in DoInk’s composition editor. Fourth and fifth graders are familiar with this app too! My DoInk drawing animation is of Charlie sleeping and dreaming about playing catch. I often wonder what he dreams about?! He does sleep a lot! Good enough to eat?! Some of you are hard at work drawing your favorite meal. While some of you are working on coloring a picture from a coloring book. This is a coloring book page I had of art by Kathi Hanson! She is a watercolor artist and this coloring book is from 1998!! This coloring book page is printed on watercolor paper and I choose to use a material similar to the tempera paint cakes we have at school. Here are some student's favorite foods that they uploaded to our Artsonia gallery! A delicious lunch from Chipotle, mac and cheese, and popcorn! Thank you for sharing! For my older artists that enjoy sharing with me the stages of their artwork, feel free to share with me your progress pictures if you are working on a longer project. Feel free to upload even if it is not yet complete! Here are the stages of my painting. I used the app Pic Collage to put together my progress. You can see the material I used in the background it is not quite watercolor but closer to our tempera paint cakes that we have at school.
Hi Greenbrier Families, I have created a project folder on Artsonia titled 0 Remote Learning As students are completing their e-learning, if possible, feel free to upload their artwork onto Artsonia. I will be creating along with the students and uploading e-learning examples. Also, feel free to upload other art your children create during this time. Artsonia is a platform for student's work to be shared and celebrated. Please encourage creating and making at home whatever form it may be. I am looking forward to seeing what your child is creating at home!! There are two ways to upload your child's artwork to our Remote Learning folder: 1) On the computer
You can visit our Artsonia Greenbrier school website at anytime to view the gallery! Thinking of all of you during this time! Best, Mrs. Vanderwiel As we embark on our e-learning journey I will be creating and uploading artwork along with the students on Artsonia I hope you are enjoying e-learning and are having fun drawing with the Youtube Channel Art for Kids Hub
This week students had the opportunity to start creating a submission for this year's PTA Reflections. Submissions are due November 5th!
To celebrate International Day of Peace Kindergarten through Second grade students created pinwheels for peace.
Students explored the drawing center this week! They went on a scavenger hunt to learn where all the tools, materials, and resources are located.
Students were inspired by Georgia O'Keeffe's cloud paintings. Students created their own organic cloud shape. They then drew and painted what they thought their cloud could look like.
Each grade level was a different color of the rainbow in our display! The artist, Pierre-Auguste Renoir, had a close connection with famous painter Claude Monet. For years, Renoir stayed at Monet’s rented home in the small town of Argenteuil near Paris, France.
During the time they spent in Argenteuil, they both enjoyed painting in the outdoors where they focused on painting views of the scenery around them. In 1873, Renoir painted Monet painting his garden at Argenteuil. Using an easel to hold his canvas, Monet is painting the flowers around his house. Monet is holding his brush in one hand while his palette rests on the other hand. An umbrella and a box of paints can be seen under Monet’s easel. Fifth grade students have spent many weeks brainstorming and planning out their ceramic functional objects. Students are just about finished sculpting and some are even beginning to dry out to be kiln ready! We will then glaze them before we photograph and demonstrate to each other how they will be used!
One of our new I Can Statements in our Fourth grade curriculum is...
I can explain why I made adjustments to my artwork based on peer critique. Dr Lynn and I worked together to create this peer critique for the students. The students were providing each other suggestions on color and arrangement before they paint their "Heart Healthy" model magic food plate. When finished, we will team up with Mr. Helmann to connect with our Jump Rope for Heart fundraiser! Students then wrote a letter on the back of their postcard explaining their field trip and what they drew. Some students wrote their letter in a different language depending on who they were addressing their letter to. One student wrote her letter to her friend who was a former Greenbrier student. She now lives in Japan. This student would have got to experience the field trip this year too if she were still here at Greenbrier. Now she can enjoy the experience through this postcard! The two students call each other pen pals.
Fifth grade students are planning out their functional ceramic object. Students spent a day with our Advanced Learning Facilitator planning and sculpting their idea out of modeling dough. After winter break students will begin sculpting their idea out of clay.
When all classes finish the Art Game they receive a "Yes Day" or a Free Art Day. Students can use the centers around the room to create something of their choosing. Mrs. Donovan's first grade class however, was the FIRST CLASS to finish the Art Game this year! For their great behavior they are rewarded with a free art day that includes an endless supply of model magic! Below are some of their creations:
Second grade students first painted their fall and winter landscape paintings. Students' paintings were then cut into strips and attached onto an accordion fold. Which painting you see depends on your viewing angle.
Inspired by their Wendella boat ride, third grade students practiced creating the Chicago skyline in different perspectives. Students are now working on creating a postcard of Chicago.
