Fourth grade students created their own intermediate colors by painting color gradients. Students transitioned from a primary color to a secondary color. When their colors overlapped in the middle they created an intermediate color. After students where finished painting, they used the computer to create their own digital color gradient.

Students began quilling on top of their concentric square background by rolling, shaping, and gluing different sized coils to their squares.
Quilling is an art form that involves rolling, shaping, and gluing paper. Students practiced quilling today by creating different sized coils.
The fifth grade students created our game board for the "Art Game." Each class has a game piece and will advance in the game by following the Art Room Expectations:
During our staff opening day presentation, Dr. Bein shared with us the picture book "Yes Day!" by Amy Krouse Rosenthal and Tom Lichtenheld. I just loved the idea of transferring this into the art room. When each class gets to the final game board space, they will earn a "Yes Day." On this day, students will have a studio choice-based art class where they get to create whatever they would like to make. The students are excited by the idea! I wonder which class will earn their "Yes Day" first?! The first project in the art room was an all-school art display inspired by our theme "Imagine." Students looked at Wassily Kandinsky's "Squares with Concentric Circles," and then created their own concentric circle. Our art display starting to grow as each student hangs their concentric circle during their art class. By the end of the week our display was complete!
This year I have added art jobs to our art room expectations. Students know which job they have that day based on their seat number at their table. Our direction expert will answer any questions that their tablemates might have and will also remind the students were to put their art at the end of class. Our master of supplies will get and put away all communal supplies for their table. Our clean up inspector will double check that the table is clean and paint-free and that there is nothing on the floor under their table. The jobs will rotate weekly.
