In remote learning today, third-grade students are creating an altered photograph inspired by Jan von Holleben. Students are finding an old photograph of themself and arranging objects on top of their photograph to alter their hairstyle. I found a photograph of myself when I was seven and I used yarn to alter my hairstyle. My altered photograph reminds me of my Raggedy Ann doll I had when I was young.

If I had a garden in an unexpected place, I would choose to grow it on top of my car. I think people would smile when they see it!
I chose to paint an old yellow light bulb. What once was a used light bulb is now Bob, my favorite Minion character.
Today marks the 50th year of celebrating Earth Day! The first Earth Day was officially celebrated on April 22, 1970, and every year the movement grows bigger and is more widely celebrated. In 1990, Earth Day was celebrated with more than 140 countries participating. Today, more than 180 countries and a billion people observe the special day.
I was inspired by the April snowfall when I created my newspaper collage. I decided to twist the paper and make mine a bas-relief or a low-relief. Fifth grade students created bas-reliefs, using modeling clay, last year. Watch the video below and see if you know more about recycling than Melissa McCarthy!
For my Land Art, I chose to use grass clippings and flowers. After I mowed the lawn, I took my grass clippings and arranged them on the driveway. Unfortunately, in my backyard, I planted some flowers too early this season and from the April snowfalls and high winds some of my flowers fell off their stems. I used those in my composition as well.
In celebration of Earth Day, Wednesday April 22nd, this week's remote learning projects will be centered around nature and ways to preserve our world.
I chose to create my flipbook on post-it notes that I received from the Google for Doodle drawing contest. I also took a picture of each page of my flipbook and I created a stop-motion animation movie in iMovie!
I chose the positive message "Be A Light" inspired by my new favorite song "Be a Light" by country music artist Thomas Rhett. I think the message is so important, especially right now.
In remote learning today, second-grade students are creating 5 different texture rubbings. They will create each texture rubbing by first finding something that has an interesting texture and then placing a piece of paper directly on it. They will then rub over it with the side of a crayon or pencil to transfer the texture onto their paper. I went around my house and backyard looking for textures and found 5 that interest me the most! I then used different colored crayons when rubbing and transferring the texture onto the paper. In remote learning today, third-grade students are creating their own puzzle. I chose to create a puzzle out of my texture rubbings. I cut each piece using a small paper cutter.
In remote learning today, all students are drawing a gator. Students could either draw our school gator, draw along with Art for Kids Hub or create their own gator! I took our Greenbrier Gator logo and turned it into a word art using the iPad app WordFoto. This video was sent out to all GB families today reminding them just how much the staff is thinking about them during this time. Each teacher created a photo message. I chose to include my Gator logo in my photo!

Visit Bomomo to create digital abstract art!
In remote learning today, all students are turning 5 circles into 5 different objects. For my circles, I was inspired by objects around my house!
In remote learning today, first-grade students are spelling out their name or a word using objects. I chose to spell out the word Art using art supplies.
I chose to create a still life of my favorite childhood toy. I included a husky because that is a dog you would see in the Iditarod race. I loved Beanie Babies and as a child, I would often create pet shops with them! I would first set up the store and then pretend people were coming to buy a pet and the supplies they needed to take care of it!
In remote learning today, Kindergarten students are working on making a continuous line drawing. When finished with their line drawing they will color in every shape created by the overlapping lines. I used sharpie for my continuous line and crayons to color in every shape. Fourth-grade students are working on zentangle designs. They will first draw a contour line drawing and then add zentangles within it. Zentangle designs focus on repeating various lines and shapes. I chose to copy my Kindergarten continuous line drawing as my contour line drawing. I then filled it with zentangles, using a pencil first and then black sharpie. I love zentangle designs because the repeated patterns are so fun to create!
As we are finishing up our first week of E-Learning, many of you have been drawing by following along with the drawing tutorials on Art for Kids Hub. I love this Youtube Channel because the artist, who has drawn for years, is drawing along with a young artist, who is drawing that object, in that way, probably for the first time. It is so helpful to watch both the artist and younger artist complete these step-by-step drawings together. Here are some student uploads on our Artsonia gallery! Thank you for sharing your drawings!!
