In the book, “Wangari’s Trees of Peace” by Jeanette Winter, Wangari works hard to make her home a better place. Wangari starts by planting nine seedlings and then continues to plant trees all over Kenya. In remote learning today, first-grade students are creating a mini flipbook of a seed being planted and growing into a tree. The flipbook drawings could be drawn on post-it notes or on small pieces of paper stapled together. Students should draw each stage of a tree growing on a different page. Although, I called my flipbook a life cycle of a tree, I did not include all stages of a tree's life. I started with a seed, then a sprout, then a sapling, and then finally a mature tree. |
In celebration of Earth Day, Wednesday April 22nd, this week's remote learning projects will be centered around nature and ways to preserve our world. I chose to create my flipbook on post-it notes that I received from the Google for Doodle drawing contest. I also took a picture of each page of my flipbook and I created a stop-motion animation movie in iMovie!
