In remote learning today, third-grade students are creating a small bird’s nest! Students can use paper, cardboard, an egg carton, felt/fabric, yarn or any other materials to create their nest! For my nest, I chose to use yarn. I first cut the yarn into small strands. Then I put plastic wrap around a styrofoam bowl. I then soaked each strand of yarn in liquid glue and formed a nest inside the bowl. Next week third-grade students will be planning and preparing for creating a model magic bird to go inside their nest. Students will receive a package of model magic clay in their art portfolio to finish their project. Students can watch my tutorial on ways to sculpt their bird and add texture by using scissors. I chose to sculpt a cardinal and I used acrylic paint for the color choice. Students can use markers or any kind of paint (watercolor, tempera, acrylic) to color their bird. The type of acrylic paint I used was outdoor paint so it has an added sheen to the pigment.
