Fourth grade students first shared their favorite meal with their tablemates. We then went on MyPlate to look at which foods are part of a healthy eating lifestyle. Students then brainstormed with their peers how they can adjust their favorite meal to be heart healthy. Some students made simple adjustments such as replacing their grain to be whole-wheat or whole-grain instead of white bread. Some students eliminated their dessert and added a vegetable instead. Students then drew their meal in a top-down view as an initial sketch to reference from when creating their meal out of model magic clay. Students then painted the clay trying to paint a realistic recreation of their meal.
